ROBINSON FREDERICK

One of the most fun ways to get a peek into another person’s life is to experience their city like a local would -- with a homebase in a their space. LifeSwap takes the fun of living how a stranger does one step further. We’ve teamed up with AirBnB to give you a taste of what it’s like to step into someone else’s shoes. We can safely say that this is the best giveaway of any SXSW party around.

ARTISTS

JAN

JELINEK

Jan Jelinek is a German electronic musician who also operates under the names of Farben, Gramm and The Exposures. He is the founder of the German record label Faitiche and has released music on ~scape. His approach is about transformation of sound, about translating parameters of popular music into abstract, reduced and textural electronics. In 1998 he started to release his works under a number of pseudonyms (Farben, Gramm) adapting his primary sampling premise to a surprising range of different sounds. During the following years, Jan Jelinek collaborated with artists like Sarah Morris or German author Thomas Meinecke, played a range of laptop or gadget/modular-synth based live sets, worked with improvisation ensembles from Japanese trio Computer Soup to the Australian jazz formation Triosk, wrote and produced radio-plays/collages for the SWR, created a number of audio-visual performances with video artist Karl Kliem for the Centre Pompidou in Paris, among others and founded with Andrew Pekler and Hanno Leichtmann the improvisation trio Groupshow, which refuses any repertoire or standard performance durations. Jan is currently a fellow in Los Angeles at Villa Aurora.

SCY1E

Raub Roy's projects (Horaflora, Scy1e) takes liberally of the rich and diverse traditions of new music in order to craft something unique from discrete stylistic tendency. Homemade/found/consumer electroacoustic components are utilized in the production of sound; balloons, toothbrushes, plastic bags, street sweeper bristles, Tesla wands, iPhones, MIDI controllers, and primitive surround sound systems are all deployed in service to an all-encompassing bricolage. Raub is a member of the LCM/Oakland collective concert series/venue, and founded Weird Ear Records (with partner Dianne Lynn), a record label reveling in disparate forms of experimental music. Their slogan, “The Weird Ear, The Better,” serves as a guideline to the curatorial themes across all of these projects. Raub is from Western Mass. but has lived in the Bay Area since 2007.
